CHESAPEAKE, Va. (June 22, 2022) – Centura College’s Chesapeake Campus has broken ground on a new front entrance on Greenbrier Parkway. This new entrance will provide easier access for students and faculty, as well as provide greater visibility for the campus. Celebrating the college’s new address was Chesapeake Mayor, Dr. Rick West, Norfolk Mayor and Chancellor of Centura College, Dr. Kenneth Alexander, Civil Engineer Hollis Ellis of Providence Partnership LLC, Architect Wendell Green of WTG Design Architects LLC, Regional Director of Centura College, Dr. Paulette Thomas-Collins, Vice President of Campus Operations of Centura College, Patricia Thomas, Vice President of Administration of Centura College, Dr. Mike Lanouette, and various Program Advisory Committee members, who have helped develop the programs and curriculum at Centura College.
Civil Engineer and project manager Hollis Ellis stated, “we are excited about what we are going to be accomplishing here. There is so much potential and growth here on this campus and we look forward to working with the school to make that happen.” Ellis played an influential role in helping design the new entryway, which will provide the community direct access to the institution of higher learning in the business district of Greenbrier Parkway. Ellis worked with Mayor West and City of Chesapeake Public Works to design the right-in/right-out entrance to minimize the impact on traffic, produce a safe entryway to the growing institution, and provide access to the innovative programs in solar energy, medical assisting, esthetician, massage therapy, and a range of baccalaureate and associate degree programs the college provides.
The plan for the new entrance was designed by Architect Wendell Green, Owner of WTG Design Architects LLC in Chesapeake. “Day after day on my way home I would see the sign for the college, but I didn’t really focus on it at all,” said Green. “As a dreamer, an architect, I had visions and dreams that we were going to make sure people that come by here will be able to look at our campus and go ‘Woah I am a dreamer.’” Green’s design and support from Ellis, Mayor West, and the City of Chesapeake Public Works helped bring the dream of a new entrance at Centura College Chesapeake to a reality. “We are going to make sure Centura College is the icon for other colleges,” said Green.
